The word 'custom' is associated with an authorized company that is responsible to collect and safeguard various custom duties for its nation. However the rules and regulations for such duties may vary from country to country. Customs are supposed to basically control the flow of goods from one place to another place. Here the custom officers check the necessary documentation for the clearance of goods. If they do not find the necessary documents with the goods, they are authorized to stop the delivery of such products. People found guilty in this regard may go to jail.
Not many people are aware of custom duty. It is actually a kind of tax that is levied on the transfer of the goods from one place to another place. The amount of tax varies according to the rules of various countries. A very important word that is linked with custom is the custom area. This is actually a space where un-cleared goods are kept under the security of custom officers or immigration officials. All authorized ports have the facility of recognized custom areas.
As it is the age of privatization and globalization, governments in many countries have given the duties and responsibilities related to the administration of custom to some private bodies. It is has been done for the efficient maintenance of law, order and justice. But the down side of privatization is that some agencies have been observed delaying the process of shipment that causes huge loss to businesses.
