Literature
'Literature' is a very broad term that includes so many things under it. There is no particular definition for this word. In the general sense, it may be any language both in written as well as in verbal form. Specifically, it is the art of the written work that comprises of elements like drama, fiction, poetry and other literary works. Literature is one of the best ways to gain knowledge and thereby improve ones personality and lifestyle. This is why there is a myriad of novels, drama books, magazines, personal improvement books, language improvement books, cookery and childcare and health books in the market.
Literature can be anything in the form of written hard copy or soft copy or any type of spoken material for people. Broadly speaking, it covers creative writing, technical writing, scientific writing, lectures, forums, seminars and more. With lots of modern literature available in the current market, the importance of books and magazines that cater to different needs of individuals, have significantly gone up. There is a craze in the society for books and guides on health and fitness, common diseases, business & career books and fashion & lifestyle books.
Literature can be dated back to around 2700 BC when it dealt with themes of heroism, loss, friendship, romance and the quest for eternal and peaceful life. The earliest literary work is said to be the' Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh'. Talking about the oral literature, it includes oral traditions that cover different types of epic, poetry, drama, folktales, ballads, jokes and more.
