Paper is a thin material, which is mainly used for writing, printing and packaging purposes. It comes from various sources like wood, rags and grasses. Different items are made from paper. Some common products of paper that are used in our daily lives may be named as paper money, notebooks, magazines, envelopes, diaries, books and many more. Paper products that are used in cleaning include toilet paper, paper towels, tissue papers to name a few. Paper items that are meant for packaging are: paper bag, paper roll, envelope, wrapping tissue, wallpaper and corrugated box.
Some other forms include emery paper, sandpaper, blotting paper, litmus paper, electrical insulation paper etc. Paper and pulp industry is dominated by the US, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Japan and Australia. In the coming years, China and India are expected to be the major manufacturers of paper and pulp products. The future of the paper industry seems to be very bright as the demand for the latest paper and pulp products is increasing day by day. Currently, there are around 409 grades of paper. Some of the common grades include abrasive, absorbent and acid free papers.
The primary function of the paper manufactures is to convert raw paper materials into useful products. It is in the interest of the paper industry that there are more than 126 associations established across the world in 39 countries in order to develop this industry. In addition to this, the number of packaging companies and research firms using paper products is increasing.
