'Apparel' refers to the clothes or clothing used by human beings to cover their body and protect them from the elements. Clothes are also used to protect the skin as they keep the toxins away from the body and limit the transmission of bacteria and viruses. Clothes are a symbol of your social and cultural status. They express your fashion and style. They are made from various materials like leather, yarn, leaves and barks of trees.
According to historians, the earliest clothing mainly included fur, leather, leaves and grass, which were wrapped around the body. Most of the historians are of the view that the invention of clothing came into being between 50,000 and 100,000 years ago. However, the date of the origin remains unsolved. The advanced ways of creating clothes evolved in different countries especially after the industrial revolution that took place first in England. Since then, various tools and machines have come into being to make different kinds of apparel.
Thanks to the advancement of science and technology, today the apparel industry is one of the largest industries in the world. There are millions of manufacturers and suppliers of clothes these days to cater to the latest trends in fashion and style. The modern clothing industry can boast of the advanced apparel marts that are meant to promote this industry. These are the places where buyers and sellers meet and strike lucrative deals. In addition, there are several apparel export promotion councils in India and other parts of the world to promote the clothing industry.
There are various types of clothes that can be broadly categorized into two categories- casual wears and formal wears. The first category refers to dresses that are used in offices, organizations and social events such as wedding, dinner party, dance or race. On the other hand, the formal attire may consist of a suit with trousers and matching jacket, long sleeved-shirt and a tie.
