Family
The term 'Family' refers to a group of people affiliated by a common ancestry or co-residence. Although, the term originally referred to relation by blood, but anthropologists argued that one need to understand that the idea of "blood" metaphorically, and that many societies understand the concept through genetic distance.
If we look from the perspective of children, family serves to locate children socially, and plays a major role in their enculturation and socialization. However, from the point of view of parent(s), the main goal of family is to produce and enculturate and socialize children. In short, family is believed to encourage intimacy, trust and love among individuals living together.
In the past few years, family life have got the attention of social activists, who are worried about the decay of the family and see this as a sign of the crumbling of contemporary society. There has also been an increased amount of government reforms and policies regarding families such as, family planning. All these factors have led to a sharp fall in population across many countries. Of late, government of many countries are offering incentives to people to have large families in order to reverse population decline.
