Religion & Spirituality
Religion can be defined as the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction. However, members of an organized religion may not see any major difference between spirituality and religion.
There are some people who draw a strong distinction between religion and spirituality. Such individuals see spirituality as a belief, but not feel bound to the bureaucratic structure and creeds of a particular organized religion. They choose the term spirituality rather than religion to describe their form of belief, since they reject organized religion because of historical acts by religious organizations.
However, the term religion has also been criticized by various scholars over the years. Wilfred Cantwell Smith, a Canadian scholar, argued that religion rather than being a universally valid category is a peculiarly European concept of comparatively recent origin.
The term has underwent many changes and evolution. Today, there is space and freedom for dialogue and discussion. People also now have the liberty to choose/change their religion.
